Double Chin

Why it Happens

A double chin refers to the area of accumulated fat cells under the jawline. Double chins are often associated with weight gain, but many trim individuals have this issue. Genetics plays a role in the accumulation of fat in this area. Increased skin laxity and mandibular bone loss associated with aging can also contribute.

How  Kybella Works

Melt the Fat

In 2015, the FDA approved Kybella, deoxycholic acid, to treat moderate to severe submental fullness (double chin). Deoxycholic acid is the body’s natural fat dissolving molecule; it destroys fat cells by disrupting their cell membrane. Kybella is injected under the chin using a cannula for treatment comfort and maximum coverage to shrink the fat under the chin. The results are durable, often lasting forever as long as one maintains a stable weight.

FAQs

Kybella, when will I see results ?

The best results from Kybella occur when patients get three treatments about one month apart. Noticeable results appear after two treatments, and optimal results materialize two months after the third treatment. From start to finish, striking Kybella results take around 4-6 months.

Is a Kybella treatment painful?

There is a mild to moderate amount of discomfort associated with the injection of Kybella that peaks after a few minutes and dissipates quickly. This discomfort is easily managed with icing pre and post-injection for a few minutes. We recommend taking 1,000 mg of Tylenol 45 minutes before your appointment to aid treatment tolerance.

How long does Kybella last?

The medication in Kybella, deoxycholic acid, is a digestive acid that breaks down fat permanently. As long as you do not gain a significant amount of weight, the fat cells destroyed will remain so permanently.

What is the downtime after a Kybella treatment?

Injecting Kybella causes the fat cells in the treatment area to break down, which results in inflammation and a moderate degree of swelling. The inflammation is desirable as it results in new collagen formation helping the skin tighten over time. The swelling typically peaks at 5-7 days and subsides quickly thereafter.

How many Kybella treatments will I need?

A typical Kybella treatment involves two vials of Kybella injected via cannula for treatment comfort and to maximize product distribution. For noticeable correction, two to four treatments are needed.

How much is a Kybella treatment?

Each treatment runs from $1,000 – $1500, depending on the number of Kybella vials required for the treatment area.
