Kybella
Non-Surgical Double Chin Reduction with Kybella
Fullness under the chin and along the jawline is often genetic and can be resistant to diet and exercise. Kybella uses deoxycholic acid, a molecule naturally found in the body, to permanently break down unwanted fat cells, helping create a more defined, contoured jawline.

Where Kybella Works
Under The Chin
Kybella is designed to treat small pockets of fat under the chin that contribute to the appearance of a double chin or a softer neck profile. When appropriate, it can help create a slimmer, more defined chin contour over time.
In The Jowls
Kybella may be used in select patients to treat small pockets of fat along the jowl area that contribute to heaviness around the lower face. When appropriate, it can help create a more refined jawline contour over time.

Our Kybella Process
1
Consultation
Dr Brigham will assess the area, discuss your goals, and determine whether Kybella is right for you. This includes an estimate of the number of treatments needed.
2
Topical Numbing & Injections
Before treatment, a topical numbing cream is applied to help keep you comfortable. Once the area is ready, Kybella is carefully injected into the targeted pockets of fullness.
3
Follow Up
We’ll check in with you the next day, when swelling is most apparent. We’ll also follow up around the 4-week mark to ensure all is well and assess your results.

Before & After Care for Kybella
Before
Schedule your Kybella treatment at least 5 weeks before any big event to allow for post-treatment swelling.
Avoid Advil, Aleve, and Aspirin for two days before treatment, as they can increase the risk of bruising.
Inform us if you have a history of difficulty swallowing, allergies, a history of anaphylaxis, or recent surgeries.
Take 1,000 mg of Tylenol / Acetaminophen, 45 minutes before your appointment, to aid treatment comfort.

Kybella vs Generic Kybella
One difference, for our patients, between brand-name Kybella® and a compounded formulation is cost, though there are also differences in manufacturing, regulatory approval, and formulation.
Kybella® is FDA-approved and manufactured under strict regulatory standards. Compounded deoxycholic acid contains the same active ingredient and is prepared by a local, licensed compounding pharmacy. Both options are used to reduce submental fat, giving patients the flexibility to choose the treatment approach that best fits their preference and budget.

Kybella FAQs
How does Kybella work?
Kybella contains a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule your liver naturally produces, to safely break down fat. At Aluma, Kybella is injected with a needle for the under the chin fat and a cannula along the jawline for jowl fat.
How long does Kybella last?
Fat cells destroyed by Kybella are permanently eliminated. As long as your weight stays stable, the treated area keeps its improved contour. However, significant weight gain can cause new fat accumulation, but the area generally does not return to its previous level of fullness.
Does Kybella hurt?
Kybella can cause a temporary stinging or burning sensation, typically most noticeable during the first few minutes after injection, before gradually subsiding. Lidocaine is commonly added to enhance comfort during treatment. Taking 1,000 mg of Tylenol (2 extra-strength tablets) approximately 45 minutes prior to the appointment may also help minimize discomfort.
When will I see results?
Most patients notice a gradual improvement after their second treatment. Optimal results typically require 3 sessions, spaced about 6–8 weeks apart. The most noticeable improvement is usually seen 6–8 weeks after the final treatment, once swelling has resolved and contour changes are complete.
How much does Kybella cost?
The cost of Kybella depends on whether you choose the brand-name or generic formulation. Brand-name Kybella is typically $1,500 per treatment, which includes 2 vials. The generic formulation is typically $750 per treatment, often including 3 vials, making it a more cost-effective option.
Is there downtime after a Kybella treatment?
After a Kybella treatment, it’s normal to experience noticeable swelling, especially during the first 48 hours. Swelling typically subsides over the next 3–5 days, and mild tenderness, bruising, or redness may also occur. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately, but the treated area may remain slightly swollen for about a week.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients achieve noticeable results with 3 treatments, though some may benefit from a fourth session for optimal contouring. Treatments are typically spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow the body to fully respond and for results to develop gradually.
