What is PRF Microneedling

At Aluma, one of our most popular skin surface treatments is PRF microneedling. This Treatment offers remarkable results for correcting complexion concerns, such as acne scars, discolorations, and wrinkles. Let’s explore the benefits of PRF microneedling and what sets it apart from PRP.

The Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves creating micro-injuries in the skin using tiny needles. This process stimulates the body’s natural healing response, producing new collagen and elastin. The benefits of microneedling with or without PRF include:

  • Improves Skin Texture and Tone: Smooths out rough skin, reducing the appearance of scars and uneven texture.
  • Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Stimulates collagen production, which helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Enhances Skin Firmness and Elasticity: Promotes firmer, more youthful-looking skin.
  • Minimizes Pores: Reduces the size of pores, giving the skin a more refined appearance.

How is PRF Different from PRP

PRF, or Platelet-Rich Fibrin, is an advanced form of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. Both PRF and PRP use the patient’s blood to harness the healing power of platelets and growth factors.

Key differences that make PRF superior for skin rejuvenation:

  • Natural and Chemical-Free: PRF is entirely natural and free from additives or anticoagulants. In contrast, most PRP collection tubes contain additives to form the gel separator that separates the platelet-rich plasma from the red blood cells.
  • Lower Spin Speed – To obtain PRP, blood collection tubes are spun at a force up to six times greater than used in PRF. The high-speed spinning method aims to remove all Red Blood Cells (RBCs) by pushing them down to the bottom of the tube with gravitational force. While this approach is effective, spinning too fast for too long can also remove many beneficial cells.
  • Slower Release of Growth Factors: Since PRF is collected using a low spin speed, a natural fibrin matrix is created. That matrix is microneedled into the skin, enabling the gradual release of growth factors and cytokines.
  • Higher Concentration of Platelets: PRF contains a higher concentration of platelets and leukocytes, enhancing the ability to stimulate tissue regeneration and healing.

Who Is a Good Candidate for PRF Microneedling

PRF microneedling is suitable for all skin types and colors, unlike radiofrequency microneedling and deep peels, which cannot be used on darker skin tones.

  • Individuals with Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Those seeking to reduce signs of aging.
  • People with Acne Scars or Surgical Scars: Those wanting to improve skin texture and reduce scarring.
  • Individuals with Hyperpigmentation or Uneven Skin Tone: Those looking to achieve a more even complexion.
  • Anyone Wanting to Boost Collagen Production: Those interested in preventative anti-aging treatments.
  • Patients Preferring Natural Treatments: Those seeking a chemical-free, natural approach to skin rejuvenation.

What is the Best Microneedling Device

At Aluma, we use the SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device, for all our microneedling services. The SkinPen retails for around 8K and can only be sold to medical professionals. Here’s why we stand fully behind the SkinPen:

  • Safety and Precision: The SkinPen prioritizes safety, providing precise control over needle depth and ensuring consistent penetration depth for optimal outcomes. Operating at 1600 microchannels per second, it features active retraction to minimize scratching or tracking during treatment.
  • Sterile and Hygienic: It uses disposable, single-use needle cartridges with validated protection against fluid contamination. The cartridge’s lock-out feature prevents accidental reuse, ensuring safety during treatments.
  • Clinically Proven Results: SkinPen is backed by extensive clinical research, demonstrating its efficacy in improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation.
  • Superior Design: Engineered and manufactured in the US, this device maintains a consistent speed of 7000 rpm throughout its entire battery life. It operates quietly, emitting less than 70 decibels at a distance of 3 feet.
  • Customizable Treatments: The SkinPen enables personalized treatments because the needle depth is easily adjusted and validated for depth, ensuring customization for each patient’s unique requirements.

Is PRF Microneedling Worth It

Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) microneedling has recently gained popularity as an advanced skin rejuvenation treatment, but many are asking if is it worth it. Research suggests that PRF microneedling can enhance skin texture, reduce fine lines, and promote collagen production. A study published in the “Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology” found that patients treated with PRF microneedling experienced significant improvements in skin elasticity and overall appearance compared to those who underwent traditional microneedling alone. Another study in “Dermatologic Surgery” highlighted that PRF, a natural concentration of the body’s platelets and growth factors, enhances the wound healing process and promotes tissue regeneration more efficiently than Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). Given these findings, PRF microneedling appears to be a worthwhile investment for individuals seeking a more youthful and radiant complexion, leveraging the body’s healing mechanisms for superior results.
