Chemical Peels

Brighten Dull Skin With Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are a standard resurfacing procedure with the advantages of affordability, efficiency, and therapeutic flexibility. They are designed to induce controlled epidermal damage, stimulating the body’s natural wound-healing process. Utilizing catalysts like alpha hydroxy acids, glycolic, phytic, lactic, and salicylic acids, chemical peels accelerate cellular turnover and boost collagen production for brighter, tighter, clearer skin.

Optimizing Peel Performance

For optimal results, we recommend a sequence of three peels spaced one month apart. The initial peel focuses on exfoliating dead skin cells and eliminating surface-level protein buildup. The second peel targets deeper skin imperfections emerging from lower layers. The third peel strengthens the cumulative benefits thus far and preserves the achieved brightness and clarity.

Types of Chemical Peels

Chemical peels come in various formulations, each customized to specific skin concerns. Light peels address conditions such as acne, melasma, photodamage, and scaly patches. Medium-depth peels effectively treat fine lines, mild scarring, and texture issues, while deep peels target deeper wrinkles, stubborn dark spots, texture complaints, and scars.

Illuminize Peel

Known as the “Red Carpet Peel” in the industry, this illuminating treatment utilizes newer generation AHA acids (mandelic and malic) combined with phytic acid, salicylic, and resorcinol to improve color, clarity, and texture with little to no downtime.

Vitalize Peel

This popular SkinMedica peel decreases the appearance of pore size, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines. It also is great for those suffering from acne. Key ingredients like salicylic acid, resorcinol, retinol, panthenol, and lactic acid provide vibrant, radiant skin noticeable after one treatment.

Rejuvenize Peel

SkinMedica’s deepest peel, perfect for Vitalize Peel tolerants. Combining Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid, Resorcinol, Panthenol, and Isoceteth-20 at over 15% strength, it corrects moderate to severe skin issues such as photodamage, wrinkles, texture, and hyperpigmentation. Moderate peeling can be expected for 2-5 days.

FAQ: General Peel Questions

How should I prepare for my chemical peel treatment?

Avoid retinols, topical acids, and hydroquinone for a week before your treatment. Additionally, some clients prefer to arrive for their appointment with a clean, makeup-free face. However, our esthetician always cleanses your face prior to application.

What is the downtime for a chemical peel?

All the Skinmedica Peels have minimal downtime. The degree of peeling varies depending on the individual’s skin type and the type of peel. Peeling ranges from very mild flaking to peeling in sheets for 2-5 days. Regardless of the amount of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, which will result in overall skin texture improvement and brightness.

How much do chemical peels cost?

Aluma’s chemical peels cost $150-$250, depending on the service. Alle rewards can be applied to reduce the price.

Do chemical peels hurt?

Tolerance to the procedure varies. With deeper peels, tingling and mild burning sensations are normal and expected. A handheld fan can reduce any discomfort during the treatment, which usually subsides in a few minutes.

Are chemical peels safe?

Chemical peels are safe when performed by trained professionals and when appropriate precautions are taken. The Illuminize Peel can be safely repeated every 2 weeks, the Vitalize Peel every 3 to 4 weeks, and the Rejuvenize Peel every 4 to 6 weeks. There is no limit to the number of chemical peels a person can receive per year as long as improvement continues.

FAQ: Peel Specifics

Can pregnant or lactating women receive a SkinMedia Peel?

No. Ingredients such as salicylic acid (present in all SkinMedica Peels) and retinol (present in Vitalize Peel and Rejuvenize Peel) are known teratogens. When these substances are ingested orally, it may result in complications for pregnant or lactating women. The safety of topical salicylic acid and retinol use in pregnant or lactating women has not been established. Therefore, we recommend that SkinMedica Peels not be used on pregnant or lactating women.

What distinguishes the Illuminize Peel from other SkinMedica Peels?

Illuminize Peel is the gentlest SkinMedica Peel. Patients should not expect to see visible peeling due to the superficial nature of this peel. There is no downtime with Illuminize Peel.

Can all skin types benefit from a chemical peel?

The Illuminize and Vitalize Peel are appropriate for all Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI. The Rejuvenize Peel is recommended for Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-IV. It can be performed on skin types V and VI after the patient has established tolerability to Vitalize Peel.
