Dermal Fillers
Achieve Facial Rejuvenation with Dermal Fillers in Portland
Loss of facial contour is a natural part of aging, one that can be further influenced by genetics or weight loss. You may notice that your cheeks and lips are not as plump as they once were or that your under-eye bags and marionette lines appear more pronounced. This is because, over time, the facial bones recede, deep fat pads and connective tissue shrink, and the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen in the skin slows down. While topical creams can be temporarily effective at hydrating the skin surface, dermal filler injections are the best way to replace lost tissue volume, which in turn restores support and balance to facial features.
Undereye Filler
For many, undereye bags, hollows, and darkness are the main beauty concerns. As we age, the eye area goes through a constellation of changes, resulting in an overall tired appearance. Fortunately, this area can be dramatically improved by utilizing a comprehensive approach with dermal fillers. Treating the lateral cheek to improve lift, the anterior cheek to enhance projection, and under the eye to smooth the transition all work together to restore support and brighten the eyes.
We prefer a flexible dermal filler, such as RHA3, in the mid-to superficial layers under the eye, sometimes in a blended form. This application provides adequate support and moves naturally with facial expressions.
Lip Filler
The lips are a focal point of beauty and a conveyor of health. Many patients consider lip filler to help with age-related changes or improve inherited lip size. Lip fillers improve lip shape and proportion. In addition, beautiful results can be achieved with a minimal amount of product.
At Aluma, RHA® 3 from the Revance Aesthetics line is our go-to lip filler. RHA3 is robust enough to provide a nice boost in lip volume but also flexible enough to move seamlessly during facial expression. Due to its superb tissue integration, RHA3 creates some of the most natural results of all the lip fillers.
For those who desire a more plump result, we like Juvederm Ultra because it draws more water to the area, enhancing volume. Restylane Kysse is also an option.
Cheek Filler
The cheeks are one of the most essential elements in overall face shape and support. They are responsible for lifting the jawline, smoothing nasolabial folds, and diminishing under-eye bags. As we age, the cheeks lose their curvature and flatten. Injecting the right dermal fillers with precise placement revitalizes the cheeks and restores a lifted appearance throughout the face.
For patients who need an optimum lift and fuller dimension, we prefer to use VOLUMA®™, a hyaluronic acid filler with suitable strength to lift from a deep tissue plane.
We use Restylane Lyft to restore cheek curves and lift for patients sensitive to Vycross technology.
For areas of the mid-face that require softer and more flexible movement, we opt for RHA® 3 and Restylane Contour.
Chin & Jawline Filler
In our youth, we never consider that sagging jawlines and a diminished chin are in our future. Additionally, a recessed or small chin can significantly impact facial shape and balance. With a judicious application of dermal filler, we can improve chin projection and height for corrected facial proportions and restore or enhance jawline definition.
RHA® 4, VOLUMA®, and JUVÉDERM® VOLUX® XC are all robust fillers with high cohesivity that make them well-suited for injections in the chin and jawline. Results tend to last a year or more.
Temple Filler
Few people realize just how much the temples impact your overall facial shape. With time, the fat pads in the temple region shrink, resulting in a sunken appearance that influences many other areas of the face. Hollow temples can give the impression of premature aging or poor health.
With a judicious amount of RHA® 4 or similar robust hyaluronic acid filler, we can restore volume to the temples renewing a full youthful form and oval face shape.

FAQ: Dermal Fillers
Where are dermal fillers used?
Dermal fillers are great for contouring, supporting, lifting, and volumizing. The temples, cheeks, lips, chin, and jawline are common areas for dermal fillers where they can improve overall facial shape and proportion. Other, more advanced areas Dr. Brigham treats include tear troughs, the infrabrow, deep crow’s feet, the forehead, marionette lines, smoker’s lines, and downturned lip corners.
Are dermal fillers painful?
On a ten-point pain scale, with ten being extreme pain, most clients rate a dermal filler treatment as a two to four. During your treatment, we utilize cold therapy and other modalities to minimize the discomfort. All dermal fillers contain lidocaine, which numbs the tissue being injected. We recommend taking 1,000 mg of Tylenol 45 minutes before your treatment to aid treatment comfort.
How much do dermal fillers cost?
Dermal filler treatment for most areas of the face requires at least two vials to achieve noticeable correction, sometimes three to four vials. Lip filler treatment typically requires only one vial. The price range per dermal filler vial is $750 to $900, with multiple vial treatments getting the reduced price per syringe benefit.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal fillers are not permanent. Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last between 10 and 15 months, depending on your body’s metabolism and the cross-linking technology present. The amount of cross-linking may affect duration, with Juvederm Voluma known to last the longest of FDA-approved dermal fillers, 18-24 months, based on one study.
Before & After Care
How should I prepare for my dermal filler treatment?
No preparation is necessary, although some clients prefer to arrive for their appointment with a clean, makeup-free face. However, our staff always cleanses the treatment area before administering the filler.
What is the downtime for dermal filler treatments?
Often, clients return to their normal activities on the day of treatment. Minimal swelling and tenderness are expected for a day or two. Sometimes, slight bruising at the injection site occurs.
